It has been a week of suffering in some form - through travel, allergy or exposure to the relentless misery of global affairs as part of my research. I have been in London at UCL for a conference and then at the University of Cambridge to retrieve a scientific poster from the university's creative services department. If you ever need a poster printed, AVMG offer a range of services and were incredibly quick, friendly and professional.
Walking through Downing Site (where they are based) is also a poignant reminder of the contribution Cambridge has made to scientific progress. Walking past the buildings where IVF methods were pioneered, the electron was discovered and DNA was sequenced is the antidote to the fecund ignorance of the US administration on matters scientific.
Since the Nobel prize was created in 1901, Cambridge has literally had a Nobel laureate every year (126). They are only surpassed in number by Harvard (160) The profound implications of current US policy and the scientific exodus it has triggered are hard to quantify.
Roses in the garden are coming in to full bloom and the Kiftsgate Rose corymbs are starting to impart the most incredible perfume - a musk/sandalwood/clove fragrance. The Claire Austin roses we have growing on the adjacent wall are far more of a classic rose with fragile petals that strong winds cast everywhere. They too are starting to impart a classic myrrh/meadowsweet scent.
